Name: Lucky
Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Sex: Female
Age: 18 mths
Colour: Black Brindle
Dog friendly: Initial assessents are good.
Cats: No
Children: 8 yrs

Poor Lucky has recently come into rescue after been found abandoned in a park, she had not long had pups as her teats were still very large. She was here for a full MOT and vaccination with Doggy Doc David Bradbury and gave him a proper Stafford welcome, including rolling over for tummies, smiling and having cuddles x We had noticed a large swelling by her bottom and such a good girl just stood whilst Dave carried out a full conscious rectal examination and we suspect she has a partial bilateral perineal hernia which will require specialist surgery at a referral centre. Sadly we understand that this is likely to have been caused by her having difficulties giving birth to her pups and can only assume this is why she was discarded :((((((( She is a typical Stafford and is struggling with boarding kennels and true to her breed is everyone's friend, wanting nothing more than fuss and cuddles and will repay you with a generous ear wash xxx  She is a lovely bouncy girlie and would be suited to an active family home, please consider this sweet affectionate girlie xx We will be assessing her with other dogs but early signs in kennels suggest she is not keen on small ones, but she is stressed in kennels so we want to investigate this further x

LUCKY UPDATE - Cannot tell you how proud I was of Lucky again this morning. The weather was terrible and she was in the car for nearly two hours but sat quietly watching out of the window. Carlos the referral vet was amazed how friendly and well mannered she was whilst he prodded and examined her rear quarters and had to give her a cuddle when he finished x Surgery is going to be third week in June and she will be staying for at least one overnight subject to how the procedure goes, costings will be in next week and I will pop up a fundraiser x She was such a good girl so we called in to see my elderly mum and once again apart from a 5 minute burst of initial excitement with a new toy, she was so gentle, calm and affectionate and snoozed on my lap whilst we chatted and had coffee. She is such a wonderful girlie and once we have assessed her more with other dogs it would be good to get a home lined up for her before her op xxx

LATEST UPDATE - Lucky has now had her surgery which was successful and is nearly fully recovered.  She stayed at HQ the night before she went in for her op and obviously was very excited but was extremely full of beans and she will require a very secure garden as she can clear nearly 5ft !!! So worktops and tables are great fun, as are open windows :))))))  We are looking for an active family environment where she can be kept busy playing and going for walks as she has two speeds, full on and asleep :)))  She is a wonderfully affectionate girl and so deserves the right type of frenetic household x  Lucky has now had an assessment and was actually keen to interact through the fence with the teaching dogs and we will be joining a class with her to further this x

Yes happy to walk and interact

8 yrs plus

Lots of people have been asking about our lovely old Border Terrier boy Buster and we were holding off popping his details up until we had fully assessed his mobility issues. Buster is just 12yrs old, and is a lovely., happy, affectionate little man although can be hand shy initially and was very shut down when he arrived spending most of the day sound asleep in his new big bed x Once he had started to come out of his shell and wanted to run and play we noticed some quite severe movement issues with his hind quarters. On further investigation it was noted by our chiropractor that all of his vertebrae were misaligned and our vet has confirmed a spinal lesion in the lumbars. He has now had three chiropractor treatments and is a hundred times better than he was and is able to run and play which is heart warming to see x He does still have bad days when we get scissor splits and seems worse on his breakfast walk but we are all hopeful that he will continue to improve and we find massaging his lower back and his hind legs help x He is unable to do steps, and needs short walks on level ground and he does scuff on one rear leg so grass walking more suited x He is such a lovely cheeky, chatty chappy and now very happy and it is so lovely to see him develop x We are looking for a quiet retirement home with company and love and he will make a fantastic companion x He is not currently on any medication but may require anti-inflammatories in time xxxx He is quite happy to walk and interact with other dogs and loves my elderley JRT bitch and I do think it is possible for him to go with another older dog after gentle intro's, a bitch would be best xx He is quite an active boy but when he has his bad days he does require his legs correcting and massaging so any new owner would need to be able to bend over and do this if he is unable to correct himself out on a walk x

Name: Lou
Breed: Patterjack
Sex: Female
Age: 10 yrs
Colour: Grizzle and tan broken coat
Dog friendly:

Tolerates - needs to go as only pet

Cats: No nor small furries
Children: 8 yrs plus

Little Lou is a bundle of energy despite her age!!!! She is the most affectionate girlie wanting cuddles and giving loads of great kisses and ear washes, we are sure she thinks she is a parrot as very keen to snuggle up on your shoulder!!!! When she arrived we noticed that she had a 'dead eye'and upon testing the pressure we noticed it had the start of glaucoma, so felt as she had no sight in it and it would be painful in future it was easier to remove when we spayed her x She is a very slight leggy terrier, weighing about 8 kilos with a broken coat and very long tickly whiskers :p She is quite vocal towards other dogs initially but will walk with other onlead dogs at a happy distance but is best suited as an only pet as she does not like to interact and loves to be the centre of attention !! She has come from a rural background and is quite hunty so will need a secure garden with panel type fencing and gravel boards. She is tennis ball mad and would be happy to spend hours dropping them at your feet for you to keep throwing them for her x She is confident meeting all people, has lived with oder children and a really lovely friendly girl, who would love her own warm lap to snuggle up on x Please give her a chance xxx

Name: Nicky
Breed: Old Tyme Bulldog cross
Sex: Female
Age: 3 yrs
Colour: White with brindle patches
Dog friendly:

Yes typical over zealous bullbreed play!

Cats: Could go with confident, dog savvy cat that would stand it's ground and swipe as will chase.
Children: Older

Nicky was sadly an unclaimed stray and came in having a full blown phantom pregnancy including milk :( She was extremely timid and hand shy when she arrived, but thanks to the dedication of the boarding kennel staff having her in the kitchen at lunchtimes, she has now really come out of her shell xxx She is a lovely, affectionate girlie, enjoying cuddles and interactive play and loves to do mad zoomies around the field !!!! We are looking for a nice calm home, and bullbreed experience would be useful xx

NICKY UPDATE - Really pleased to advise that after several months of phantom pregnancies and urine infections which have now totally cleared up we were able to spay Nicky. Her surgery went really well today and after a thorough inspection her bladder now looks normal and the thickening has subsided so we will be weaning her off of her meds and bless her she will now be ready for rehoming xxxxx She is a super girlie, full of exhuberance and high energy, good with other dogs but will need a fairly active home with older children as she is very clumsy and does tend to get over excited xxx Now that her hormones are settling down we can continue with assessments and classes as I think she will certainly benefit and we can channel her energy :))))))))

LATEST UPDATE - Nicky has now moved to HQ and wow, what a cuddle monster she is !!! Once we have the initial excitement of mad zoomies completed she just loves to potter about and sit next to you for cuddles and kisses on a bench. She is the most soft and affectionate girlie that you can imagine and is clean in her kennel overnight and during the day. She is happy to be left alone next to new pal Buddy and will pass the time chewing buffalo scalp and snoozing, we did have a couple of stressy days initially but soon settled into the routine and is so obedient - a perfect girlie xx She will make a fantastic companion for a family or active couple and is lovely with other dogs and we are sure she would be a great companion dog with another active youngster but would need plenty of room as she is very large and clumsy, bless her :)))))))) Please consider this lovely girlie whose life is now for living xx

Name: Skye
Breed: Beagle cross
Sex: Female
Age: 6 yrs
Colour: Tri-colour
Dog friendly:

Quite shy when meeting new dogs, needs time to get to know them

Cats: No
Children: Adult

Please meet sweet Skye, a 5yr old Beagle cross who had a bad start in life and has been with her family for 5 yrs but is now struggling to cope with a more hectic home. Poor Skye is very timid, and will need a patient and gentle adult home with a routine and time to help work with her to build her confidence and is extremely anxious around new people and in new situations x She is extremely affectionate once she is relaxed in your company and gives a lovely ear wash x Typical Beagle she is extremely foody and exchange is required !!!! She is quite a big girlie, but very finely boned and we are now of the opinion that she is probably crossed with a Pointer x

Skye had visited HQ several times in an effort to help the transition be less stressful before she came here and she was visibly more comfortable each time. She started walking with the other dogs and that certainly helped relax her but now she is here she is quite happy to walk alone with our vounteers. Initially we had felt that she maybe better going as a companion dog as her confidence has grown, we feel she is better going as an only pet as she doesn't like to share with other dogs but fine to walk with them.  Any new prospective home must be happy to visit a few times for her to get to know them followed by several visits leading to an overnight at the new home.

Skye is a lovely girl and is looking for an active home and would be more suited to a semi rural environment, her recall is good in the garden but if there is anything of interest her hearing seems to go!!!!!!!!! She is not used to being left for long periods so would be suited to a home worker or someone that can take her in the car with them etc x She is quite wary of men so we do feel a lady owner maybe better although she is very attached to my husband who walks her at HQ x
